When I received my monster mill with hardened steel rollers, the first thing I noticed was how much more heavy duty it was. They second thing I noticed is that I could mill 40# of grain in no more than 23 minutes (if that). My barley crusher was a ford pinto compared to the lamborghini that is my monster mill.

I started with a Corona mill, then upgraded to a Barley Crusher. Eventually, the Barley Crusher wouldn't crush, it just spun and wouldn't grab grain, so I upgraded to a 3 roller MonsterMill. It is definitely the best of the 3.

Try tightening your gap, don't worry about how your crush looks relative to your old corona mill. I have used a barley crusher for about 4 years. I tightened mine up from the factory setting to about .032". It worked great and gave me great efficiency (8085%) for about three years and has been slowly wearing out over the last year or so.

Using a standard 2roller homebrew mill, I crushed each malt using four different gap settings. The gap settings were mm, mm, mm and mm, and I used a feeler gauge to confirm these gap setting between each milling. After milling, I performed a grain sieve test on the different malts and crushes, and recorded all of the results.

Years ago I bought a Barley Crusher Malt Mill. It's the only one I've purchased so I don't have a comparison. Still works perfectly. I've read that the gap will slip on some of the cheaper ones. I did eventually motorize it because I could never get a consistent RPM with the drill. (I'm puzzled why they still come with a hand crank)

That motor seems on the weak side but it all depends on the mill that you plan on driving. The max RPM's seems on the low side as well (135 RPM). For comparison my mill motor is 180 RPM at ftlbs. This Link motor works with the Barley Crusher based on a member of the beer club.

4. The hopper holds close to 10 LBS of grain and mill does do a great job of milling grains quickly. Finally, if you are a BIAB brewer and looking for higher efficiency I do not recommend this mill.
